Visiting an indoor shooting range for the first time can feel exciting—and maybe a little intimidating. The good news? You don’t need experience to have a safe and enjoyable visit.

Here’s what to expect before you arrive.

1. What to Expect Your First Time at an Indoor Range

Most indoor ranges require a valid government-issued ID at check-in.

If you plan to rent a firearm, staff may also explain range policies and rental procedures.

Tip: Arrive 10–15 minutes early for paperwork and orientation.

2. Eye & Ear Protection Is Required

Indoor ranges are loud.

Always wear:

  • Eye protection

  • Hearing protection

If you don’t have your own gear, ask if rentals or purchases are available on site.

3. Safety Comes First

Before entering the range, you’ll receive a quick safety briefing.

The basics usually include:

  • Keep the firearm pointed in a safe direction

  • Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot

  • Follow all Range Safety Officer instructions

  • Only load firearms in designated shooting areas

If you’re unsure about anything, ask questions—everyone starts somewhere.

4. Start Slow

Many first-time shooters think accuracy comes from shooting fast.

It doesn’t.

Focus on:

  • Stable stance

  • Consistent grip

  • Smooth trigger press

  • Slow and controlled shots

Take your time.

5. Expect More Than Just Shooting

A range visit can include:

✓ Learning safety fundamentals

✓ Trying different platforms

✓ Building confidence

✓ Spending time with friends or family

There’s no pressure to be an expert.
